Introduction of Coins
This issue had a generous mintage, and worn examples are common. Mint State pieces are scarce but not rare. Gems, however, are seldom seen. Like all dimes of the 1840-60 subtype, the 1841 Philadelphia Mint issue is subject to some weakness on Liberty's head and the wreath's bow knot. These deep features of the dies were directly opposite one another in the press, and this inhibited full striking. A few repunched date varieties are known. When paired with late die state reverses they are included within Fortin's Top 100.Read More
