Introduction of Coins
The mintage of dimes at the New Orleans Mint in 1845 was sufficient that well worn pieces may be found without too much searching. This issue becomes decidedly scarce in grades VF and higher with Mint State examples being all but non-existent. With its modest mintage, just a single pair of dies was used for the 1845 O dime. At least, that was the thinking until an example having a very thick mintmark surfaced. It's not yet certain whether this is the same die with retooling or an entirely new die.Read More
