Introduction of Coins
The United States's coinage facility in San Francisco began operations as an official branch mint in 1854. The Mint delivered 123,826 Liberty Eagles this year. Although this is a limited mintage, the 1854-S is the most common S-mint Eagle produced prior to 1879. We stress, however, that most survivors are in lower circulated grades.
