If the intent of the 20-cent piece was to increase the government's use of silver, the Carson City Mint contributed very little to this effort in 1875. Its modest production confirms that this denomination was not really needed, though this figure is only slightly lower than that of the 1875-CC quarter dollar, so there were clearly other factors affecting production. The Brunner/Frost book reports four die marriages for 1875-CC 20-cent pieces, though one more surfaced shortly after its publication. The Flynn book on this series lists both a misplaced-date variety and a repunched date, but both are too minor to attract much collector interest.Read More
