Introduction of Coins
Despite a relatively high mintage figure of nearly one million coins, the 1867-S is one of the most difficult Type Two issues to locate in high grades. It is regarded as the second rarest Type Two issue from San Francisco. Examples are very challenging to locate in AU55 and are downright rare in properly graded AU58 condition. Uncirculated 1867-S Twenties are extremely rare with perhaps only six to eight pieces known.
