Introduction of Coins

The Denver Mint struck a number of quarter dollars that was comparable to 1941's production, which is surprising given the rapid build-up of Ameirca's economy. It's possible that the agricultural sector, a big component of the Denver Mint's service territory, was not as greatly affected by the step-up in production typical of both coasts. 1942-D quarters were well made in comparison to those of the other two mints, a typical condition for the war years. Gems are plentiful, with even a fairly large number of MS 67 examples available to advanced collectors. Doubled-die varieties are known for both obverse and reverse, and some of these are quite extreme. Only under wartime conditions would such dies have been put into service. This issue is a cherrypicker's delight for doubled-dies. Also known are a few repunched mintmarks.Read More
