The 1867 gold dollar, from a mintage of 5,200 circulation strikes, is rare in any condition. Mintage of all the smaller gold coins of this year were small, so soon after the end of the Civil War, parity between gold, silver, and paper currency had not been achieved, and any gold (or silver) coins that appeared in circulation would be immediately hoarded, exported, or melted, for the most part.
