Introduction of Coins
The U.S. Marshals Service is the country's oldest federal law enforcement agency. In celebration of the 225th anniversary of the Marshals, Congress authorized a commemorative coin program consisting of up to 750,000 clad half dollar coins, 500,000 silver dollars, and 100,000 $5 gold coins. Even with designs emblematic of the Old West, overall sales for the Marshals coins were relatively low.
