The proofs of this date, as with most two-cent pieces, have a relatively low survival rate. In addition to the 600 sold with the silver proof sets, Kevin Flynn added 53 more included in minor proof sets, yet even this total is probably incomplete. There is anecdotal evidence that the Mint furnished unsold proof coins at the end of each year to favored dealers at face value, so the complete distribution will never be known.
