Introduction of Coins
A single obverse die revealing a trace of an underlying 0 beneath the final numeral 1 was paired with two reverse dies. In die marriage O-101, the 0 is faintly visible to the right of the 1, and a large, period-like dot is seen between numerals 81. When this die was paired with a second reverse to make O-102, both dies were in their final days. The denticles are blurred or non-existant, and the dot has been polished off of the obverse, along with any evidence of the underlying 0. This is the more scarce of the two varieties, but O-101 remains more popular with general collectors. Though readily available in circulated grades, Mint State examples are rare.Read More
