Introduction of Coins
Though the half dollars of 1817-20 are notable for overdated dies, the more modest production during 1820 evidently resulted in no leftover dies. Thus, there are no overdate varieties for 1821 This issue is available across a broad range of grades, with a fairly large number of Mint State coins certified. A number of these are gems, which is a most unusual situation for early United States coins. There are no popularly collected varieties for this date, which is represented by a single line entry in most catalogs. The seven known die marriages resulted from the combining of six obverse dies and seven reverses. O-107 is slightly scarce but of interest solely to series specialists.Read More
