Introduction of Coins
1868 is a very scarce date in the series of three-cent proofs. Some 600 were included within the silver proof sets of that year, and it appears that few, if any, were sold in addition to that figure. These coins were well made, resulting in a small but collectable population of Cameo and Ultra Cameo specimens. The low value of these coins until the 1960s weighed against their preservation, and gems are rare.Read More
