Introduction of Coins
Graham/Reiver-1 is a great rarity which saw the normal obverse paired with a Small Eagle/Small Letters reverse die which is similar but not identical to that of the later Seated Liberty Half Dollar. Though it would seem logical that this was the last variety coined, Graham placed it as his Number 1 for reasons that were not made completely clear in the book. Only ten examples had been confirmed at the time his book was published, but the variety is still largely unknown to most collectors, and it's likely that more pieces will surface. Its inclusion and pricing in popular catalogs is a strong inducement to examine every 1839 Capped Bust Half carefully.Read More
