The final entry in this series is another common date that was widely hoarded. Among the persons known to have had considerable numbers of these late 1880s proofs was famed collector/hoarder Virgil Brand. He was never a figure to buy just one of something when 100 could be had in a single purchase. The year 1889 marked his entry into coin collecting, and he had a voracious appetite for coins over the next 30+ years.
