Introduction of Coins
Once again the Denver Mint produced the sharpest nickels in 1949, though coins having either 5FS or 6FS remain quite scarce. It seems that the nickels from all three mints in 1949 were of mediocre quality as compared to the years immediately preceding. This general decline in quality became more obvious as the 1950s progressed. The several D/D varieties for this issue are of little note, but the very obvious D/S die is one of the most desired varieties in the Jefferson series. Examples are rare in all grades, but this is especially true of Mint State survivors.Read More
