Introduction of Coins

Proof set sales for 1961 nearly doubled over the previous year, much of this speculative interest being attributable to the Small Date proof cents of 1960. The coin market in general was in overdrive for the next several years, before crashing at the end of 1964.  This date is readily available in all grades through PF 68, though only a small percentage will display contrasting fields and devices. Cameo proofs are common enough to be collectable at premium prices, but Ultra Cameos are for the most determined collectors.  The dramatic rise in proof mintages came with a commensurate increase in doubled-die varieties, but the only one significant to gain general interest in the TDO variety FS-801.Read More
