Introduction of Coins

By the latter part of 1923 the existing supply of nickels in storage from earlier years had finally been distributed, and demand for new pieces existed once again. The six million coined at San Francisco in 1923 were not enough to prevent this issue from becoming slightly scarce in Mint State and in the higher circulated grades. Most Mint State survivors are less than fully struck, though a very small number of exceptional pieces are known. More common is coins having a decent obverse strike and a mushy reverse that resulted from leftover dies of earlier years.Read More
