Introduction of Coins

This issue had one of the lowest mintages in the popular Buffalo Nickel series, and it has long been prized in any grade. Heavily worn pieces were widely hoarded from the late 1930s through the 1950s, so coins grading less than Fine are only slightly scarce. Among S-Mint nickels of the 1920s, this date is more often seen with decent strike than others. None are ever as fully struck as those of the 1910s, but they are generally much sharper than notorious dates such as 1920 S and 1925 S. Three repunched mintmark varieties are noted, but they are too minor to attract much interest on a coin that is already costly in most grades.Read More
