Though sales of proof nickels within both the minor and silver proof sets fell during 1914, this seems to be the date most often seen for the 1913-16 series. Gems are more available than for the 1913 issues, perhaps due to the greater quality of these coins as made. They have a finer grain to their surfaces which, when seen on a well preserved specimen, are much more attractive than for the earlier date.Read More
