Introduction of Coins
The proof nickels of 1890 were made with greater care than was the case during 1888-89, perhaps as a consequence of collector complaints about those earlier pieces. The example illustrated is a lovely Cameo proof, and 1890 has a higher than usual number of such pieces as compared to proofs of the 1880s. Collectors will still have to be careful in selecting a specimen, as minor problems such as lint impressions, tiny planchet voids and isolated striking weakness may be encountered.Read More
