Introduction of Coins
The coin hobby began to lose some momentum in the latter 1880s, and this is evident in the lower sales of proofs beginning this year. This date is certainly not rare, though there are fewer survivors from which to chose. Gems exist in sufficent numbers to be collectable, but Cameo proofs are quite scarce for 1887. The strike on these late 1880s proofs may be less than complete, and the squared rims and edges of modern proofs are seldom seen for coins of this period.Read More
