HALF DIME
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Introduction of Coins
This was another high mintage issue that is readily available in circulated grades. Mint State pieces are not rare, but they were saved in smaller numbers than the 1838 edition. Most 1839 half dimes were reasonably well struck, with only some lack of definition in the denticles. The stars were hand punched into each obverse die, and their relative positions will vary a bit. One obverse die features repunched numerals 39 in the date, but this has not enjoyed much attention from collectors.Read More
