HALF DIME
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Introduction of Coins
Though this issue was subject to the same bullion hoarding that preserved so many 1852(P) half dimes, its much lower mintage largely precluded a high survival rate in the upper circulated and Mint State grades. Most examples are well worn from circulation that occurred in the 1870s and later, when the value of silver fell rapidly, or they were circulated overseas. Numerous USA silver coins found their ways to Canada and Latin America during the 1850s and '60s to supplement the inadequate supplies of local coinage.Read More
