Introduction of Coins
A mintage of more than two million pieces was generous for a New Orleans Mint coin, and this reflected the urgency of restoring silver coins to circulation following a drought of three years. Where these coins all went is a bit of a mystery, as this date is slightly scarce in worn condition and genuinely rare in Mint State. Large O and Medium O varieties are claimed for this issue, but the size difference, if any, is negligible. A minor repunched date variety is confirmed.Read More
