HALF DIME
Introduction of Coins
This was a routine entry in the annual series of proof half dimes, yet it assumes a greater importance today. The very small number of currency strikes, just 13,000 pieces, has rendered the proof issue far more available. It appears that a single die pair was used for both strikings. The 1865 proof was a well made coin. Nearly all are fully struck and having some degree of contrast between fields and devices. Even so, Ultra Cameo examples and those grading higher than PF 65 are rare.Read More
