The Philadelphia Mint's output of half dimes more than doubled from the previous, as deposits of silver for coining increased dramatically after 1867. This is the first truly common issue since 1862, and it set the pattern for the last few years of half dime coinage. The example illustrated shows weakness at the lower part of the shield and the upper left portion of the wreath.
