HALF DIME
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Introduction of Coins
1857 O half dimes are fairly plentiful in circulated grades, and Mint State pieces are only slightly scarce. Most grade MS 64 or lower, and the spike in pieces certified as MS 66 likely represents multiple submissions of a just a few coins. Nearly all half dimes dated 1856-58 are poorly struck in places, with their borders being particularly troublesome. The coin illustrated is exceptionally sharp, though its date seems to have been shallowly impressed into the die.Read More
