Introduction of Coins
Some 600 pieces were included in the silver proof sets sold in 1868, and an additional quantity, probably on the order of a few hundred, were sold with the minor sets. The complete total will likely never be known. This date is fairly plentiful as proof Shield Nickels go, but gems are distinctly in the minority. Cameo proofs are also quite scarce.
