Introduction of Coins
The half dimes of 1829-34 resulted in few varieties of interest to anyone other than specialists, but this changed with 1835's production. There are no fewer than four naked-eye varieties to entice collectors. These resulted from the use of different size dates and denominations in numerous combinations. Three dies each bore either the Small Date or Large Date, while Large 5C. dies outnumbered those having the Small 5C. five to four. A total of 12 die marriages are known in all, and none of the four major varieties is scarce. As for the numbered die marriages, none are rare, with only LM-2, -4, -5, -7 and -11 being somewhat scarce. The remaining LM numbers are common.Read More
