Introduction of Coins
This is the scarcest date of the Capped Bust Half Dime series, as its relatively low mintage suggests. This type was discontinued in June of 1837 when the new Seated Liberty dies were ready. Five die marriages resulted from the use of three obverses and four reverses. Only one of these reverse dies featured the Small 5C., and this was leftover from 1835's production. LM-4's popularity exceeds its actual rarity, as it is just moderately scarce. LM-2 and LM-3 are more rare but of little interest outside series specialists. This leaves LM-1 and LM-5 as the likely choices for a date or type collection.Read More
