Introduction of Coins
The mintage figure for this date is a bit deceiving, as it includes half dimes struck during 1831 but dated 1829 or 1830. As for the ones dated 1831, there are seven die marriages known from the combining of three obverse dies and five reverses. This date is readily available across most grades, and a fair number of Mint State pieces are included. The challenge in locating a suitable example will be to find one which is fully struck on both sides. There are no rare varieties for 1831, but LM-2 and LM-3 are moderately scarce.Read More
