Introduction of Coins

This issue enjoyed the largest mintage of quarter dollars since 1946, and Mint State pieces of average quality are very common. Truly outstanding examples, however, are quite rare. 1952-D quarters seem to be plagued with numerous small contact marks, far more so than for their coastal counterparts. This issue is one of the keys to completing a Registry-level set of the later dates. A nice doubled-die obverse may be found for 1952-D, but the most interesting variety is the so-called "Huge D" reverse. The mintmark used is similar in style to the regular one for this series after 1934, but it is noticeably larger.Read More
