Introduction of Coins
The shock of 1957's proof sales, when total production doubled to more than a million sets, cooled the overheated market in modern proofs. Sales fell in 1958, while still exceeding the total for 1956. This year's proof coins are common in all grades through PF 69, yet nearly all of these coins have little or no contrast between fields and devices. Worn and overpolished dies lacking in fine details are the rule. With so many dies needed, however, there are still a fair number of Cameo pieces. Only at the Ultra Cameo level is the 1958 proof quarter rare.Read More
