Introduction of Coins
Despite a generous mintage, the 1959-D quarter is quite rare in top grades. While huge numbers were saved at the time by the roll (or even the bag), these coins usually reveal numerous contact marks and shallow scrapes from the rough handling they receive before leaving the mint. Those traded by the bag were subjected to even more abuse, and it was until the advent of certified grading that many of these bags were finally opened and the coins submitted. Like most quarters of the late 1950s, the known varieties are quite minor, and a couple of repunched mintmarks may be found for 1959-D.Read More
