Introduction of Coins
During 1840 three of the existing Seated Liberty denominations received a distinctively revised figure of Liberty that was crafted by Robert Ball Hughes (the half dollar alone retained Gobrecht's version). This change evidently came late in the year for the quarter dollar, as the mintage of this subtype is quite small. Minor distinctions may be seen in the two reverse dies used, as the Mint continued to perfect the details of this coin typel. Not surprisingly, this issue is somewhat scarce overall and genuinely rare in Mint State.Read More
