Introduction of Coins
Despite its very modest mintage, this early San Francisco Mint quarter is not particularly difficult to locate in circulated grades. There is even a little cluster of AU specimens available to collectors, though truly Mint State pieces are rare. On the plus side, this date/mint typically comes well struck. The coinage must have occurred in a series of small batches, as Briggs identified three die marriages from two obverses and three reverses. All feature the Large S mintmark typical of the early S Mint halves and quarters.Read More
