Introduction of Coins
Though the mintage of this issue was fairly substantial, survivors are scarce. The great gold discovery in California drove down the value of this metal in relation to silver, making America's silver coins worth more than face value. This led to exportation to Britain and Europe, and there they were melted as just so much bullion.
