Introduction of Coins
Two die pairs went into this issue's mintage of 177,060 pieces. One obverse features a nice repunched date, but the overall rarity of 1852 quarter dollars makes any such variety of little interest. Most coins of this date/mint were destroyed for their bullion value after being shipped to overseas markets. Those that did become worn likely did so circulating outside of the USA or after returning stateside during the falling silver market of the 1870s. Mint State coins make up a disproportionate share of the survivors, as they probably never left the country and just sat idle.Read More
