Introduction of Coins
The mintage of quarter dollars at Philadelphia continued its slide into 1860, as the Treasury worked off the glut of fractional silver coins in circulation. This date is plentiful in circulated grades, but Mint State survivors are slightly scarce. Gems are quite rare. Most 1860(P) quarters were coined from dies displaying the Type 2 obverse paired with the Type 1 reverse. A minority of this issue displays matching Type 2 hubs, though a market for this variety has not really developed.Read More
