Introduction of Coins
This low-mintage issue is one of the real rarities of the Seated Liberty Quarter Dollar series. Most survivors are heavily worn and/or damaged, with even the middle circulated grades being quite elusive. Two die pairs have been identified for 1861-S, with none of the four dies being used in more than one combination. The obverses are Type 2, while the reverses are old Type 1 dies leftover from shipments during the 1850s.Read More
