The 1869-S quarter dollar is scarce across all grades and a genuine rarity in Mint State. Gems are extremely rare, due in part to the mediocre luster of this issue. A single pair of dies produced the entire mintage. The reverse die was the same one used for 1866-S and 1867-S. Its distinctive raised line within the lower loop expanded for this date and partially obscures it.Read More
