Introduction of Coins
The 1926-S quarter dollar was widely hoarded by collectors and speculators from the mid-1930s onward, and worn examples are quite common. This issue becomes scarce only above Very Fine, and XF or AU coins are all the more elusive due to the poor quality of striking associated with this entry. Coins having only a little wear were lacking XF or better details, as made. Mint State survivors are very scarce, and gems are quite highly prized. Well struck examples are very rare, with those certified as FH being extremely so. 1926-S is one of several SLQs found with the "Tear Drop" die break to the right of Liberty's left thigh. Though not a true variety, it is nonetheless popular with specialists.Read More
