Introduction of Coins
This is one of only three entries in the Standing Liberty series having a mintage under one million. The great availability of Mint State 1926-D quarters even today suggests that the demand for additional pieces in 1927 was low enough to prompt this abortive production. The proportion of MS 1927-D quarters is fairly high in relation to the overall number surviving, and this is further confirmation that the coins likely remained in vaults for some time before release. The typical 1927-D quarter is poorly struck at its centers, and certified Full Head specimens are very rare. The high population shown for some grades with FH likely represents multiple submissions of several examples.Read More
