Introduction of Coins

This is yet another instance in the Standing Liberty series where a fairly low mintage did not create a rarity. Several rolls survived of the 1929-S quarter dollar for decades, and Mint State examples of average or better quality are plentiful. The onset of the Great Depression this same year led to the idling of many newly-struck coins, and 1929-S pieces of all denominations were still being released several years later alongside coins of those later years. This is the most common San Francisco Mint Type 2 quarter in its percentage of Full Head specimens. Jay Cline put this percentage at 5% of MS coins. While certainly not common, there are enough certified FH 1929-S gems to meet the demand from advanced collectors.Read More
