Introduction of Coins
This issue is similar to others of the 1880s in that it was coined as a convenience to collectors and to discourage speculation in the proofs. As it is, many pieces were preserved in Mint State, while few worn examples are found. The rarity of both categories is roughly similar which is, of course, not the norm for coins that went into widespread circulation. A single pair of dies produced this limited mintage.
