Introduction of Coins
This entry in the Barber Quarter series is scarce in all grades, and it becomes genuinely rare at the XF level and higher. Gem MS examples are all but unknown, due mostly to poor manufacture. The New Orleans Mint was suffering from aging equipment by this time, and it also seemed to have some difficulty in properly annealing its planchets. The result was poorly struck coins that often reveal flaws that were present on the planchets prior to striking and were not smoothed out by complete filling of the dies. No varieties are known for this issue, but David Lawrence identified four reverse dies from minor positional variations in the mintmark.Read More
