Introduction of Coins
The 1906 New Orleans Mint quarter dollar is more available than one would expect in Mint State, with a fair number of gems certified. Examples in the higher circulated grades are scarce and remain quite popular with collectors. Unworn examples frequently reveal poor striking as a consequence of improperly heat treating both the dies and planchets. Quality control at the New Orleans Mint seems to have declined steadily as this series progressed. David Lawrence's book illustrates a single repunched date variety, but this is not convincing and may just be strike doubling.Read More
