Introduction of Coins
Following the pattern of most branch mint Barber Quarters of the mid 1890s, this issue is scarce in grades Very Fine through About Uncirculated, the most popular of collector grades. Mint State survivors are scarce in all grades, with gems being quite rare. New Orleans Mint coins of this period are always a bit weakly struck where the deepest die cavities oppose one another. Specifically, the hair of Liberty's forehead and the arrow feathers competed for planchet fill, with both losing some detail. No varieties are known for 1895-O, aside from the mintmark position differences noted for several dates. Two each are known for the older dies having a far right placement and the successor dies with the mintmark centered above R and D.Read More
