Introduction of Coins
All proofs of this and later dates in the series are from the Type 2 obverse hub, paired with the Type 3 reverse. The obverse is readily distinguishable by the complete rib of cartilage in Liberty's ear, her ear being slightly bigger overall. The new reverse is easily spotted by the fact that both wing tips protrude beyond the tops of letters E in UNITED and AMERICA. Proofs of this date are readily available, with some really outstanding pieces certified. Starting with this date, however, Cameo pieces comprise a smaller percentage of the total population, with Ultra Cameo examples being essentially unknown.Read More
