Introduction of Coins
This is one of the more common dates for the Capped Bust Small Size Quarter series. It is plentiful in Mint State, and there are even a fair number of gems available. Five die marriages are known from the combining of two obverse and four reverse dies. The common B-1 variety is distinctive in having letter several letters in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA repunched. The first punchings were too far to the left, and the duplicate letters are most easily seen at OF and the first A of AMERICA. Also, there is no period after the denomination, and this is the only reverse of the four that has just two lines to each of the gules (vertical stripes representing the color red). This die was likewise used for 1833 B-2. B-4 and B-5 are the fairly scarce, while the other three varieties are common.Read More
